Impact of Curriculum Alignment in School Districts
The methodology of curriculum alignment helps
educators to follow specific learning guidelines set by state and federal
government in order to improve student academic performance. Glatthorn et.al
(2006) recognized that the written curriculum, it is assumed, represents a
district-wide consensus about instructional objectives and their relative
importance for a given group of learners (p.278). Curriculum alignment drives
every teacher to work hard in meeting the basic requirement of educational
standard set by government. The impact of curriculum alignment cannot be
over-emphasized because it is a driven-force that propels educators to a
certain degree of accomplishment of job well done.
Staff Development
Staff development is greatly essential
to the successful implementation of curriculum alignment. Teachers must possess
necessary skills in order to perform effectively in the classrooms. Rice and
Howard (2003) stated that teachers and non-teachers were carefully selected and
trained in curriculum alignment and assessment through workshops, training
materials developed by the consultant and partnered conferences (p.37).Basic
skills in curriculum alignment will help educators to implement it in the
classroom with minimal supervision. Glatthorn, et al (2006) defined staff
development as a concept to designate all those district and school programs, both
formal and informal, offered to groups of teachers in response to
organizational needs (p.234).
The Role of Educators in the

The engagement of
educators is widely spread beyond a specific and the role of educators varies
from place to place. Their primary objective is to ensure that curriculum
alignment meets the educational goals of the student. Glatthorn (1999) stated
that rather than focusing solely on the written, the tested, and the taught, alignment
should be expanded so that it gives well beyond this restrictive focus (p.28). Educators
in the implementation of curriculum are stakeholders that include teachers, principals,
curriculum consultants and school administrators.
