Youth Performance Using Descriptive Statistics

The effective use of descriptive statistics to investigate youth delinquency.

This paper focuses on the effective implementation of descriptive statistic to investigate youth delinquency. The origin and causes of youth delinquency will be fully discussed in this paper. The role of parenting and the impacts on the youth development will be dealt with. The descriptive statistics will examine youth delinquency which is a social menace ravaging our society due to many circumstances.

Role of Parenting

Parent has a great responsibility to ensure that their children behave in orderly manner that is respectful and honest. Sherman (2012) recognized that the major socializing institution of youth, the family has long been recognized as important for predicting delinquency. As the kids are growing up, parent can use descriptive statistics to measure pattern of the behaviors statistics to measure pattern of behaviors in their children. Parent has the moral obligation to discipline their children whenever the children commit an offence and adult must be able to be in position to make a difference between wrong and right. Lahey et al (2008) states that parent partly set limit is an important aspect of good parenting and partly to understand parental knowledge in the context of parental limit setting.

Origin and Concept of Delinquency in Youth

The foundation of delinquency in youth starts from home; for instance a parent asks her daughter to go to bed at 8 pm and the daughter ignores the instruction and tells her mother “My show is on television, I will go later”. The kind of friendship a child keeps is another major factor because bad friend leads to bad influence. Selfhot (2008) recognized in his study that investigated how questionnaires data were collected from 435 Dutch adolescent best friend (Mean age at first wave-12.7) over a period of 5 years with annual assessments. The results showed that mean levels of delinquency and perceived friendship gradually increase over time.

Causes of Youth Delinquency

Youth delinquency is a bad attitude developed over a period of time. There are many social, economic and psychological factors that cause youth delinquency. Behavior such as delinquency derive from and help themselves shaped through social interaction.(Haynie,2005).The factors that cause youth delinquency  include absent parent, drug-infested neighborhood, teen-depression, bad influence, youth unemployment and bad video game.

Using the data collection above, it is prevalent that bad influence is the major factor causing youth delinquency. Descriptive statistics has greatly helped to conduct this research study. Mitchel & Plunkett (2000) stated that knowledge of various respondents led them to hypothesize that each individual response would fall into one of several patterns forming a categorical variable.

Conclusion

This paper has given me the opportunity to discuss the effective use of descriptive statistics to investigate youth delinquency. The role of parenting is greatly important in order to curb the prevalence of youth delinquency and the origin of youth delinquency was identified in this paper. The causes of youth delinquency was illustrated using statistical graph and that indicates that bad influence and absent parent are the leading factors of youth delinquency.
